Snacks, soups and sweets for the in-between hours.

My story

In the Philippines, merienda is the snack between meals, and in our house it was the best part of the day. My weekend menu is everything my mother made at four o'clock.

How I cook

I cook ube halaya from fresh purple yam when I can find it, stirring for an hour until it pulls away from the pan.

My signature dish

Sinigang should make you close your eyes a little: sour, warm and clean.
